Joyce Williams, it's all MINE. Joyce Williams was born in Atlanta, GA on October 21, 1977. She played the cello, guitar, and drums off and on as a kid, but athletics took over most of her youth. She excelled at soccer and basketball through high school, and later at rugby in college. Joyce was always drawn out to see live music in Atlanta, frequently clubs such as Eddie's Attic, the Redlight Café, Lenny's, and the Dark Horse Tavern. She attended Smith College in Northampton, MA from 1996-2000 and worked at the Smith College radio station, WOZQ, as a DJ and technical director for 3 years. In 1997, Joyce worked for Katz, Smith & Cohen (now Greenberg Traurig), an entertainment law firm that represents Jimmy Buffet, James Brown, The Beach Boys, TLC, and Toni Braxton. Throughout the 1998-1999 academic year, Joyce explored her passion for Brazil by attending the Brown University abroad program at Pontificica Universidade Catolica (PUC) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. While in Brazil, she connected with many important musical icons in Brazil and completed an independent study on the Tropicalismo Music Movement. Upon returning to Smith, Joyce worked throughout her senior year at the Iron Horse Music Hall, a classic venue in Northampton. She graduated from Smith College with a dual degree in Comparative Literature and Portuguese-Brazilian Studies in 2000. She moved to San Francisco, CA in November 2000, and eventually made her way to a position as Product Marketing and Associated Labels Manager with Six Degrees Records. She was with Six Degrees for 3.5 years. Six Degrees is an eclectic, independent music label that produces and markets genre-bending, accessible recordings that explore world music, ambient, folk, contemporary classical and intelligent pop music. The label represents many artists from Brazil, including Bebel Gilberto, Cibelle, Celso Fonseca, and Zuco 103. Joyce is currently the artist manager for The Ebb & Flow, Scissors for Lefty, and Kid Beyond. |
